Teaching children about diversity at an early age will help them live well adjusted lives in this global community!
No matter where a child lives, with access to the internet and travel, they are bound to experience different cultures much earlier than their parents and grandparents may have.
Many countries around the world has become home to people of varying backgrounds and an exciting mixture of ethnicities. This has resulted in communities with several different cultures and multiple languages.
As a result, many kids today experience diversity in their own “back yards”.
This gives us a great opportunity to expose and educate our kids about other nationalities and their unique customs. More importantly, it gives us a huge opportunity to teach them how to celebrate our differences and any similarities we may have.
Although the best way to share the lessons of diversity is to give them direct exposure and have open conversation, another great way is to use the many great children’s books available on the market today!
Reading is one the best ways to learn about diversity so I’ve found 10 of the best books on the subject!
These and other books can go a long way in starting the conversation and helping you to answer many of the questions that might come up.
My favorite from the list is off course Dr Seuss! Which other great children’s books on diversity can you recommend?
As always, wishing you happy times until our paths cross again!
